Famous for his courageous defence of Orthodoxy at the Council of Florence in the face of the Emperor and the Pope, he entered peace-fully into rest in the year 1445. On his deathbed, he begged his disci-ple George, later the famous Patriarch Gennadius, to keep himself from the snare of the West and to defend Orthodoxy.
